Support for Partners

Partners and family can play an important role during the birth of a child. At St. Luke’s Birthing Center, we recognize just how hard partners work, and do what we can to make sure they’re comfortable and an active part of the birth experience.

That starts with our surroundings. In our new Birthing Center, partners will find a comfortable reclining chair for resting or sleeping. Some suites have couches that can be used as sleeping space or as additional seating for when family comes to visit.

In addition to seating, our new birthing suites offer space for partners to move around so they can offer hands-on support to laboring moms. Whether partners offer physical support while walking together down the hallway or by applying counter pressure to mom’s lower back, there’s room to move around and find what’s most comfortable.

Some of the other Birthing Center features designed with partners and families in mind include:

  • A family room for extended family or siblings to gather in before meeting baby
  • A self-serve kitchenette with snacks, drinks, a vending machine, toaster and microwave so partners don’t have to leave the Birthing Center for food or drinks
  • Specially designed sinks for swaddle bathing that allow partners to be involved in baby’s first bath
  • Readily available outlets in every suite so partners can keep their devices charged while capturing labor and delivery

As a family-friendly Birthing Center, we find ways to make sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable during labor and delivery. If you have questions at any time, our staff would love to help — so please don’t hesitate to ask!

And, if you’re looking for more ways to help, here are some ideas for how partners can support their loved ones during pregnancy, labor and delivery.
